Meghalaya

  • Majority of the state of Meghalaya is hilly and mountain. Altitude is so high that clouds enter the houses. Because of this Meghalaya is called “Abode of Clouds”.

  • Krem Liat Prah is the India’s longest cave system which is 22kms long, located in Jaintia Hills in the state of Meghalaya.

  • Meghalaya is famous for roots bridges of Cherrapunjee. They are made of living roots of tree to give the form of hanging suspension bridge. Some of these bridges have two storeys.

  • Mawlynnong in Meghalaya is the cleanest village in entire Asia.

Assam

  • Margherita is not just a pizza, but it is the name of the town where the only “Coal Museum” of India is situated.

  • Jatinga, a village near Haflong, Assam, is a mysterious place where birds are known to commit mass suicide.

  • Mayong, known for being a land of sorcery, witchcraft and black magic. People can actually vanish into air.

Arunachal Pradesh

  • Dong, a very tiny village in the most eastern border of Arunachal Pradesh, is the village that receives the first ray of sunlight in India.

  • Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, is the only orchid sanctuary in India, and it has more than 200 orchid species.

  • Arunachal Pradesh have a lake named after Madhuri Dixit after she shooted there for koyla film. Its original name is Shungetsar lake.

Manipur

Mizoram

  • Mizoram faces a unique problem of rats called 'Rat Floods'. At every 48 years, a particular species of bamboo flowers, after which the population of rats increase tremendously, enough to destroy entire villages, farmlands and farm yields.

Nagaland

  • Tragopan bird is available only in Nagaland in the world.

Tripura

  • Tripura is geographically isolated, and is connected to the rest of India by only one road - NH44.
